The Kite Runner (Persian: کاغذپران باز - Kāğazparān Bāz) is a 2007 Academy Award-nominated film directed by Marc Forster based on the novel of the same name by Khaled Hosseini.
In Kabul, before the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, well-to-do teenage boy Amir and his very loyal Hazara servant Hassan (the son of his father’s servant Ali) are best friends. Amir goes to school, but Hassan does not; as a result he cannot read. Amir likes literature and reads stories to Hassan. His father Baba (Persian for father) thinks he is not tough enough, Amir lets Hassan defend him when he is bullied. Amir worries that Baba does not like him because Amir’s mother died giving birth to him.
Amir also writes a story himself. Amir’s father is not very interested, but his friend Rahim Khan reads it and encourages him.
One day Hassan and Amir come across Assef, a bully with rancor towards Hazaras, and his two friends. He prepares to fight Amir and Hassan, but Hassan threatens him with his slingshot. They back off but Assef warns them that he will take revenge.
Blood Diamond is an Academy Award-nominated 2006 adventure/drama/thriller film. It was co-produced and directed by Edward Zwick. It stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Connelly and Djimon Hounsou. The title refers to blood diamonds, which are diamonds mined in war zones and sold to finance the conflicts. On January 23, 2007, it was nominated for five Academy Awards including Best Actor (Leonardo DiCaprio) and Best Supporting Actor (Djimon Hounsou).
Set in the Sierra Leone Civil War in 1999, the film shows a country torn apart by the struggle between government soldiers and rebel forces.[1] The film portrays many of the atrocities including rebels cutting off people’s hands to stop them from voting in upcoming elections.
The film begins with the capture of Solomon Vandy (Djimon Hounsou), a fisherman, by the Revolutionary United Front (RUF) rebels. Separated from his family, Solomon is enslaved to work in the diamond fields under the command of Captain Poison (David Harewood). The RUF use the diamonds to fund their war effort often trading them directly for arms. While working in the RUF diamond fields as a forced laborer, Solomon finds a large diamond of rare pink colouring. Moments before government troops launch an attack, Captain Poison sees Solomon hiding the diamond. Captain Poison is injured in the attack before he can get the stone, and both he and Solomon are taken to prison.
Danny Archer (Leonardo DiCaprio), a white mercenary from Rhodesia (Zimbabwe), trades arms for diamonds with a RUF commander. He was imprisoned when smuggling the diamonds into neighboring Liberia. His smuggling-beneficary was a South African mercenary named Colonel Coetzee (Arnold Vosloo), who is in turn employed by South African diamond company executive Van De Kaap (Marius Weyers). Coetzee is Archer’s former commander in 32 Battalion, the most decorated unit of the South African Border War made up of Angolan and Rhodesian soldiers and white South African officers. Archer is desperate for a way to repay Colonel Coetzee for the diamonds he lost when he was thrown in jail. While in prison, he overhears Captain Poison ranting to Solomon about the discovery of the large diamond and makes plans to hunt down the stone. He arranges for Solomon’s release from prison and offers to help him find his family in exchange for the diamond.
"Cold Mountain" tells the story of a wounded Confederate soldier named Inman who struggles on a perilous journey to get back home to Cold Mountain, N.C. as well as to Ada, the woman he left behind before going off to fight in the Civil War. DJay is a petty drug dealer and a pimp with three prostitutes in his charge, but he is dissatisfied with his life. The group experiences many setbacks throughout the creative process. DJay must hustle those around him in order to procure proper equipment and recording time. Key’s relationship with his wife becomes strained, while DJay throws out one of his prostitutes for ridiculing his enterprise. The group eventually records several tracks, including “Whoop That Trick” and their primary single “It’s Hard Out Here for a Pimp”, on which DJay’s pregnant prostitute Shug provides backing vocals. DJay begins to develop a romantic connection with Shug after their recording.
Introduction: The Pursuit of Happyness is an Academy Award-nominated 2006 drama film produced by Overbrook Entertainment, Escape Artist, and Relativity Media, in association with and released by Columbia Pictures on December 15, 2006. While it is based on the true story of Christopher Gardner, a family man struggling to make ends meet, the film takes some liberties with Gardner’s actual story. Starring Will Smith as Chris Gardner and Smith’s real-life son Jaden Christopher Syre Smith as Gardner’s son Christopher, The Pursuit of Happyness follows Gardner’s struggles to break into the stock brokerage business as an intern, despite a rocky financial situation. The film was directed by Gabriele Muccino, an Italian director making his English-language directorial debut. Set in San Francisco in 1981, the film centers around Chris Gardner (Will Smith), a 30-year old, clever, yet unsuccessful, salesman of expensive bone-density scanners. Chris invested most of his and his girlfriend’s money into the scanners, which he eventually finds extremely difficult to sell (and difficult to keep from being stolen by hippies and bums). He refers to this period of his life as “Being Stupid,” in that he wrongly trusted a hippie with watching one of them while going for a job interview. Despite Christopher’s valiant attempts to help keep the family afloat, he is faltering; the rent on their apartment is far past due, and his car is towed after Chris defaults on paying over a dozen parking tickets. His girlfriend Linda (Thandie Newton) is unhappy and buckling under the constant strain of financial pressure, as her paychecks are the family’s primary source of income. 8 Mile is a 2002 Academy Award-winning film starring Marshall “Eminem” Mathers as the young white rapper Jimmy Smith Jr. It is set in Detroit, Michigan during 1995. Eight Mile Road is a road which forms the boundary between predominantly African American Detroit, Michigan and the city’s mostly white northern suburbs. The term “8 Mile” therefore represents a barrier that is difficult to cross.
The film begins with Eminem’s character Jimmy “B. Rabbit” Smith Jr. at a local rap battle emceed by Smith’s friend David “Future” Porter (Mekhi Phifer). A nervous Rabbit chokes at the mic and exits the competition.
After the initial scene at the music event, the movie focuses on Jimmy, a young sheet metal factory worker who is struggling with different aspects of his life. He has moved back north of 8 Mile Road to the rundown trailer home of his alcoholic mother Stephanie (Kim Basinger), his much-younger sister Lilly (Chloe Greenfield), and his mother’s abusive live-in boyfriend Greg (Michael Shannon). Jimmy is focused on getting his music career started, but he seems unable to catch a break. Just prior to the events of the film, he ends a relationship with his girlfriend Janeane (Taryn Manning), and during the film, begins a new relationship with Alex (Brittany Murphy).
As the film progresses, Jimmy comes to realize that his life has remained largely the same since high school. At first, he considers himself a victim of his circumstances and blames others for his problems. Over time, though, Jimmy begins to take responsibility for the direction of his life and realizes that he has a large degree of control over how it will go. He begins to question whether his group of friends, including Future, are holding themselves back from moving on to bigger things. “All we ever do is talk shit,” he tells them, as they bicker about the best way to become successful in the music business. With his onstage choke still fresh in his mind, he appears to decide that he will give up on or postpone his dream of a music career in favor of devoting more time to his day job and building a home life. Jimmy’s newfound responsibility becomes evident to his supervisor at the factory as well. At the beginning of the film, when Jimmy requests extra shifts, his supervisor laughs at him, but by the end, Jimmy’s improved attitude and performance earn him the extra work he had wanted. However, a late night shift conflicts with the next battle tournament. Jimmy initially doesn’t want to go, but a visit from Alex changes his mind. Paul (Craig Chandler), a gay co-worker whom Jimmy stood up for when he was being harassed for his sexual orientation, agrees to cover for him, further indicating how Jimmy has earned greater respect.

A young Mexican man named Santiago Munez (Kuno Becker) dreams of making it big in the world of football. When he crosses the United States–Mexico border illegally as a child with his family, he drops his football and leaves it behind, but brings his spirit and continues to play for a local team as a young man. He ends up living in a barrio in Los Angeles working a day job with his father doing landscaping work, and a night job as a bus boy in a Chinese restaurant. He wanted a promotion to waiter but was not allowed because he was not Chinese.
His only relief comes in the form of his local soccer league, of which he is the star. When Glen Foy, a former scout for Newcastle United, sees Santiago’s natural talent, he offers a try out for the team if only Santiago can make it to England. While that would fulfill his dreams, his father only wants a new truck to start his very own business. Both of their dreams come true, but at a cost. Santiago’s father gets his truck, but steals Santiago’s saving to help pay for it. Feeling sorry for him, Santiago’s grandmother buys him a ticket to London, by way of Mexico City. Upon arriving, Santiago calls Glen, who puts him up for the time being.

World heavyweight boxing champion Rocky Balboa returns home to Philadelphia to a hero's welcome after defeating Ivan Drago in a brutal match. When Tommy, who wants a high profile match against a champion, arrogantly decides that Rocky is not moving him up quickly enough, an impatient Tommy turns his back on Rocky and hires Duke as his new manager. While this gives Rocky and Junior the chance they need to work things out with each other, Tommy wins a belt, and still doesn't have the respect that he's arrogantly looking for because fans always boo him. Duke tells Tommy that the only way to get the respect Tommy wants would be to beat Rocky one-on-one, so Duke and Tommy find Rocky at a bar, and Tommy challenges Rocky to a street fight that may put Rocky's life on the line. The "Iron Curtain" is starting to come down around the Soviet Union under the leadership of Mikhail Gorbachev. A Soviet boxer named Ivan Drago(Dolph Lundgren), nicknamed "The Siberian Express", comes to the United States with his wife, a Russian champion swimmer (Brigitte Nielsen) and coach (Michael Pataki) for a guest match. Drago is a superbly conditioned boxer who has been scientifically trained in the USSR, and he & his coach propose a fight against Rocky Balboa (Stallone). Rocky's former adversary, Apollo Creed (Carl Weathers) decides to take on Drago despite having been out of the ring for several years. Creed unwisely taunts Drago before the match, and after the first round, Drago issues a prophetic warning to Creed: "You will lose." Unfortunately the warning comes true and Creed dies following a pounding by the Siberian Express. When death threats are made against the Russian boxer, he returns to the USSR and states if there is to be a match between Balboa & Drago, it will be in the USSR. To honor Creed's memory, Rocky takes the Soviets up on their challenge and goes to Siberia to train for the match against the "Siberian Express", that will take place in Moscow on Christmas Day, in front of a hostile audience... Crowe portrays Richie Roberts, a detective who brings down Lucas’ drug empire. Filming was done on location in New York City. Ellsworth “Bumpy” Johnson, a disciplined and intelligent black gangster, runs much of Harlem and imparts his wisdom onto his former driver turned right hand man, Frank Lucas (Denzel Washington). When Johnson dies of a heart attack in 1968, the power vacuum attracts many who seek a piece of the pie. Frank dislikes the new, flashy gangsters and decides to take control. During his rise, Frank meets and falls in love with Eva, a Puerto Rican beauty queen. Through his discipline, organization, and will to kill those in his way, Frank quickly rises to the top of the Harlem drug and crime scene.
Unjustly expelled from Harvard when a stash of cocaine is found in his possession, Matt (Elijah Wood) moves to London to live with his sister and her husband Steve (Marc Warren.)
